The same person could discuss with the same proficiency mathematics, architecture, music, martial arts, experimental philosophy (we would call it today science, mainly physics and chemistry), economic theories and natural law.

Christopher Wren – experimental philosopher at first, headed the re-building of London after the 1666 fire, and put his name on cute little bodegas like the St. Paul’s Cathedral.

A friend of his, Sir Isaac, a well-known author in matters of alchemy and speculative religion – with some quite interesting contributions to celestial mechanics – took later in his life the post at the helm of the Royal Mint, (we would call him today the chairman of the National Bank), and was a very adept warden and master
